Folding sliding shutters for Potsdam’s most modern residential complex.

Located directly on the Havel River, covering an area of around 14,000 square meters, on the site of the former city harbor, is a residential complex with sensational architecture: the “Havelwelle Potsdam” marina residence. The folding sliding shutters from EHRET add a very special touch to the exclusively furnished residential units.

In this impressive construction project, Potsdam architect Rüdiger Flender (Flender & Drobig Architekten GmbH) was able to develop and implement his vision of the “Havelwelle” (Havel Wave): his future-oriented architecture picks up on the defining features of the waterfront property and blends gently into existing and historic structures.  The building echoes the wave motion of the river. The spacious outdoor facilities, which include a children’s playground, lead to a new jetty and boat landing stage – reminiscent of Potsdam’s old city harbor. The riverside path remains in place, allowing walkers to enjoy views of this unique residential complex.  The client was Krause Bauträger Holding GmbH from Bayreuth. The Bayreuth-based company Markgraf was commissioned as the general contractor for the construction.

EHRET: Tracking the waves.
The wave-shaped floor plan of the building, which was completed in 2019, measures 121.50 x 21.50 meters and features an underground parking garage, four floors, and a recessed penthouse floor. In total, the Havelwelle Potsdam contains 102 residential units with around 11,500 square meters of living space. High-quality natural wood floors, glazed balconies, and many other details characterize the exclusively furnished residential units. Almost all residents can enjoy an unobstructed view of the water from their apartments. To further emphasize the wave structure in the exterior appearance, the client also relied on the design and technology of the EHRET brand. For the façade design, a striking steel construction with a sheet metal façade, 368 EHRET EFSL folding sliding shutters of the Nice type were used.

The violet-blue color of the shutters reflects the fascinating play of colors on the Havel River. With an average shading effect of around 50 percent of the balconies, the client’s requirements and wishes were fully met. In addition, the folding sliding shutters can be opened and closed without a large opening radius, making them particularly space-saving.
