External sun shading as both a design and climate-control element of modern residential architecture. EHRET sliding shutters enhance the building designed by Dietz Joppien Architects, contributing to energy efficiency, comfort, and a high-quality façade design.

The Praedium residential high-rise, located at Frankfurt’s Europagarten, sets a strong benchmark for climate-resilient, high-end living. Positioned along one of the central green axes of the Europaviertel district, the building combines sophisticated architecture with effective protection against summer heat. The EHRET aluminium sliding shutters integrated into the façade go far beyond a purely functional role: they define the building’s visual identity while making a significant contribution to occupant comfort.

A total of 159 individually designed sliding shutters allow the sun-shading system to adapt seamlessly to the complex façade structure, which includes a variety of apartment layouts, balconies, and loggias. The fixed slats provide reliable shading without obstructing views of the Europagarten and the Frankfurt skyline. This ensures bright, light-filled living spaces that remain pleasantly cool even during hot summer days.

Climate simulations clearly demonstrate the importance of external sun shading in limiting indoor temperatures and reducing cooling energy demand. At Praedium, this insight has been consistently translated into architectural design. The durable, corrosion-resistant aluminium sliding shutters integrate harmoniously into the façade. They require minimal maintenance and are almost entirely recyclable at the end of their life cycle.
